Anthony Small New FLORIDA UIC

I would like to welcome Anthony Small as the New USA Softball State UIC for Florida. Anthony will be replacing Matt Dunbar, who stepped down from his UIC duties effective December 31st.  Anthony has over 20 years of umpiring experience, with over 15 years of that with the Amateur Softball Association of America, now USA Softball.  Anthony states, “the speed of the game” is what made him a convert from baseball to softball.

Like others, Anthony began umpiring in Little League where he made it to Sectionals. While umpiring baseball, Anthony attended the Baseball Field of Dreams in Cooperstown, where he earned the championship plate of his eight-man crew. After converting to ASA/USA, Anthony has attended multiple National Championships across the nation, including the 12U Nationals in Alabama, 14U in Washington, 18U Gold in California and Florida. In addition, Anthony has worked two of the USA Softball’s Junior Olympic Cup Championships.  Anthony received his ASA Elite status for softball after achieving two excellent ratings at the 18U Gold National where he was assigned the championship plate.

Anthony participates in numerous NCAA Conferences including SEC, ACC, AAC, ASun, Conference USA and the MEAC.  During his time at the NCAA level, he has attended many conference championships and has also been assigned to a D2 Regional in Georgia and a D1 Regional at Florida.

Anthony was very fortunate to have begun his softball umpire career in Florida where he worked for one of the BEST UICs in our game, Matt Dunbar.  Another mentor was the late great Julie Johnson who also provided some very influential mentorship. He credits all of his mentors with instilling in him the ASA/USA philosophy. Anthony brings his enthusiasm to USA Softball umpiring and is looking forward to working with our umpires, teams, coaches and staff to keep USA Softball the best place to play!

We welcome Anthony in his new role as the USA Softball of Florida State UIC!
